You know that PCS (Permanent Change of Station) season is right around the corner when everyone is crossing those last regional destinations off their bucket lists. Or at the very least, indulging in a road trip to enjoy time with departing friends! The packing and organizing will get done one way or another.
Last weekend, my husband and I took our third road trip across the border to the Kazakh city of Shymkent (Шымкент). And this time we traveled with our friend and neighbor S, who leaves Uzbekistan in just a couple of weeks.
We were hoping for beautiful spring weather. We didn’t quite luck out on that front, but we did get dry roads, quick border processing, and delicious food!
We also saw unusual sights along the way.
Kazakhstan: It’s always a good idea.
It won’t be the same without S the next time we go, and neither will Post. It’s all part of this fast-changing Foreign Service life. So we make our bucket lists, and hold on to those road trips that post-PCS turn into fond memories of a life well-lived.
