I wasn’t wearing a suit. No one called me to the front of an auditorium and handed me a flag to wild applause. Second tour assignments arrive via email, with little fanfare. Mine hit my inbox last night while I was wearing pajamas and sitting half asleep in an armchair watching the Armed Forces Network.
However, my jubilant reaction was about the same.
I will be going to U.S. Embassy Canberra as a political/consular officer in August 2017.
And to think that two years ago today was my first day of A-100.
More news to come…
Yay!!! That is so awesome!! Congrats and a great location! I bet you will have lots of visitors 🙂

I just finished reading your blog from beginning to end. I just want to say I truly appreciate you documenting your process and your experience as thoroughly as you have! It is a wealth of information and after every post I asked myself the question, could I do this? Could I handle the stresses of a state visit? Could I make friends with the tortoise and not kill it? (I just submitted my personal narratives, first attempt.) Knowing how difficult it can be to keep up a Blog let alone to write in as much detail as you have, I just want to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude and I look forward to reading whatever post you may write in the future. Congratulations on your second tour bid, yet I hope Uzbekistan continues to be an adventure!

Mitsy, this is probably one of the best, if not THE best comments I have ever received on the blog! Thanks for reading, and I am glad to know that you found a wealth of helpful information here. I try to pay it forward wherever I can. I wish you the best of luck on your journey to the Foreign Service. I remember exactly how it feels. 🙂
